Ludwig Henrik Markus Wernbloom (born May 12th, 1998) is a Swedish professional footballer who currently plays for German Borrusia Munchengladbach as a striker, on loan from French club St. Etienne. He also plays for the Sweedish national team as first choice striker following the retirement of Zlatan Ibrahimovic in 2017.
Club Career[]
Early Career & Saint Etienne Emergence[]
Wernbloom appeared on scene through St Etienne's youth academy, where he was noted for having extreme pace, a powerful weak foot and skilful feet. After the sacking of St Etienne manager, Christoph Galtier, Wernbloom found himself being promoted to the senior squad under interim (later to be decided, permanent) manager Brad Friedal.
Despite his noted current ability and potential to be a star, senior appearances were few and far between; with the young man only securing 6 matches, which saw him net 4 times.
Loan Spell At AS Monaco[]
Wernbloom's ability caught the eye of AS Monaco manager, Dylan Murphy while he was searching for a long term back-up striker following the retirement of Dimitar Berbatov. After failed acquisitions for a permanent move, Murphy secured a loan move for the striker. Despite being 5th choice striker Karim Benzema, Ednson Cavani, Lacina Traoré & Anthony Martial; Wernbloom still managed to get a foothold in the senior, netting 15 goals in 21 games under the French giants, including a hat-trick in the Coupe National against FC Sochaux.
Wernbloom's final game for AS Monaco was the match which broke their 'Immortels' run, when he scored the opening goal in 2 - 1 loss to PSG in the Coupe National final.
Loan Spell At Borussia Munchengladbach[]
Following Murphy's move from AS Monaco to Borussia Munchengladbach, Murphy once again eyed up Wernbloom, this time for what he hoped for a more permanent deal. AS Saint Etienne manager Brad Friedal once again refused to let the striker leave permanently and so Murphy decided once again for a loan move. This time however, Wernbloom was chosen as second choice striker and also second choice centre forward ahead of the promising Andrej Younes.

Promotion Straight To Sweden's Senior XI[]
Following his promising loan spell at AS Monaco, Wernbloom was elected as #9 for Sweden following the retirement of legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
